DESIGNING THE LEAGUE DIGITAL STRATEGY 2027
Established in 1897, the Swiss Football League oversees the top professional football leagues in Switzerland, including the Swiss Super League. In April 2023, the league entered into a strategic partnership with LaSource to enhance its digital capabilities and improve operational efficiency. This collaboration is focused on implementing a comprehensive digital strategy, with key initiatives planned through 2027.
THE CHALLENGE
The SFL engages a vast fan base, with 64% of the Swiss population showing interest in football (5.6 million people). Despite this, the league faces challenges in converting this broad interest into active fan engagement and revenue generation.
OUR APPROACH
From auditing the current as-is, we have built a to-be framework where all layers are connected to then execute and implement the various projects
Our focus has been on the league’s commercial business pillar and overarching vision, while not neglecting the interdependency with governance and competition
ACTIVITIES & RESULTS
While we’re able to deliver and include such, our team did not conduct additional stakeholder surveys, interviews or additional market research, as this was already done by the league prior to the project kick-off. In consultation with the league, we decided to work efficiently with existing data sources

IDENTIFICATION OF OPPORTUNITIES
"We really enjoyed working with the LaSource team on developing our Digital Strategy. The fact that they know and experienced both the tech and sports organisation's worlds really helped us to translate our opportunities and challenges to a digital roadmap that is both pragmatic and ambitious. Their hands-on approach and strong investment in the project has been refreshing."
Frank Schaffner, Chief Digital Officer, Swiss Football League
The Swiss League is currently laying the groundworks for a strong data infrastructure to afterwards deploy specific projects. These data foundations, including a centralised CRM environment for the clubs, SSO and Business Intelligence foundations will allow the league to truly leverage data towards its partners and create economies and opportunities of scale when rolling out a league centralised strategy and technologies.
For multiple projects the league will enter into a research and scoping phase, in strong collaboration with the clubs, who will be serviced better than ever before, benefiting from top-notch technologies, economies of scale, benchmarking and data, all aimed at creating new and sustaining existing revenue streams.
